Board of Directors

Langley Seniors in Action has an enthusiastic and engaged board. Board members all volunteer their time in providing leadership and support to the organization. We hold monthly meetings and work on a variety of community and advocacy projects, in addition, to hosting several education workshops for seniors each year. Our AGM occurs each fall and we are looking for dynamic seniors who would like to work on our Executive. Volunteering contributes to your own positive health, the community you live in, and the organization, we hope you will consider. If interested please contact us at the following email address: president@langleyseniorsinaction.ca.

Paul Crump, President

Paul believes that making the community a better place only happens when one gets involved. Having been involved with another non-profit for some time, Paul could not pass up the opportunity to work with a group centered on advocating and educating seniors on the issues concerning them. The idea is to make a difference.

Leslie Gaudette, Vice-President

Leslie grew up in Langley, then moved to other parts of Canada after completing an BSc in Biochemistry at SFU. She quickly found a love for health statistics while working at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, then moved to Ottawa where she developed a career in epidemiology at Statistics Canada and Health Canada, earning an MSc in Epidemiology from the University of Ottawa.

In 2005, she retired and moved back to Langley to help with her mother's care, and quickly got involved in volunteer work with various community groups. In recent years, she has focused on advocacy for seniors issues and is actively engaged with the provincial leadership team of the National Association of Federal Retirees as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the Council of Senior Citizens Organizations of BC. Her goal is to advocate for Age-Friendly policies and programs that will meet the needs of today's seniors.

Janice McTaggart, Secretary

A long-time resident and volunteer in Langley, Janice was the Outreach Coordinator for the Langley Seniors Resource Society for 25 years before retiring in 2020. Earning the Heartfulness Genuine Loving Outstanding Woman award during International Women's Day in 2020, she believes that supporting local agencies that are making a difference in individuals’ lives is important. Her entire life has been about community service and giving back. LSCAT has benefited from Janice's heart for community and knowledge about seniors' needs since 2010.

Petrina Arnason, Director

Petrina was born in Wells, BC and spent her formative years in a variety of moves across Canada which culminated with a 5 acre hobby farm in south Langley. As a young adult she moved to Toronto to attend York University where she received an undergraduate degree in "Health and Environmental Studies". She subsequently graduated with a "Masters in Environmental Studies" and Law Degree (JD) from Osgoode law school in 1994. After a varied career in the legal realm, she ultimately began a small business with her husband, Gunther.

Petrina was first elected to Council in 2014 and re-elected to Langley Township Council in 2018 where she served until November 2022. During that time, she served on the Seniors Advisory Committee and helped to shape the Township's award-winning Age Friendly Community designation as well as the more recent Dementia Friendly Community provincial designation. She has also worked with a number of other seniors' serving groups including Triple A Senior Housing. She has passionately advocated for the development of more affordable senior housing options in the Township as well as other infrastructure changes and transportation options to support "aging in place".

Ron Bergen, Director

A long-time employee of the PNE, Ron was also a promoter in the Canadian country music world. Over the last few years, vision loss has sharpened his focus on quality of life; as a result, he turned to volunteerism and advocacy for people with disabilities, particularly around accessible transportation. Ron sits on the Measuring Up committee for the City of Surrey, volunteers with CNIB and is on Translink's User Advisory committee.
